When He Is Not With You

In God, God's will, The Word

And Moses said, ‘Now why do you transgress the command of the Lord? For this will not succeed. Do not go up, lest you be defeated by your enemies, for the Lord is not among you‘.”

Numbers 14:41, 42

We worry so often about hearing the things that God is saying yes to, that we forget He also says no to things. Inasmuch as He guides our feet in paths that He has purposed for us, there are also times when He is not in something. Unfortunately, we don’t think to ask Him about those things, and we go on ahead without Him. Those are likely the times we find ourselves frustrated and out of place, feeling alone and wondering where God is. If we’re honest, maybe we didn’t take that moment when it all began to ask God if this was something He had purposed for us or not.

When you pray, be as specific about God’s no’s as you are about His yes’s. Allow Him to tell you to stop just as much as you allow Him to say “Go.” Remember that it is just as important to know the things that God is not in as it is to know the things that He is in. We don’t always stop to ponder that part of the equation, but God certainly speaks in both directions if we’re being open enough to receive His instructions.

Today, ask God if there’s anything you’re already in the midst of that He is not with you in. Then, make the necessary changes. Go where He says go by all means, but remember to stop when He says stop, too. Sometimes a Holy “no” is equally important to a Holy “yes.”
