Shelter
Is there anything more comforting than the thought and concept of shelter? Just the very word itself implies such security, such safety and brings to mind a place of warmth in the midst of a storm. In my devotional time yesterday, I was instructed to look up several verses that contained this concept in the form of the shadow of God’s wings. Take a look at one of them:
Show me the wonders of Your great love,
You who save by Your right hand
those who take refuge in You from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
hide me in the shadow of Your wings
from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
from my mortal enemies who surround me.– Psalm 17: 7-9
I love knowing that no matter how vulnerable or unprotected I feel, God is always with me, and, as such, I always have a shelter I can run to. And I do mean run to, as life will often set me off in a dash to find covering when things start to go poorly. It’s not like hiding out or not facing my situation, either, because when I run to God, He has an amazing way of not only protecting me, but guiding me and molding me toward the actions I will also need to take. Being found in the shelter of God’s wings isn’t cowardly, it’s right where I need to be, because only there will I find the true direction and strength to move forward.
Today, if you feel that all around you is shifting grounds, storms, and vulnerable conditions, take heart! God has a shelter ready and waiting, and it’s the best place for you to be. Run home to the shadow of His wings.
