God is our Shield
Are you feeling a little weary today? Do you need to know that someone’s got your back? Well, I’ve got great news for you!
Multiple times during my recent morning Bible study, I’ve come across a beautiful description of God. It’s nothing I hadn’t necessarily read before, but being in need of a little bit of comfort and assurance lately, I was absolutely struck by the word picture painted in this depiction. See if you can pick it out:
“But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Psalm 3:3
“He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.”
Prov. 2:7
God is our shield. Our shield. Hear me out, because I love being superwoman as much as the next gal, but sometimes, oh, sometimes I just need a shield. I get tired. I get weary. I get exhausted from this life, and sometimes superwoman versus the world gets tiring. Feeling like I can rest in God’s protection is impossibly comforting and assuring. What better shield is there? He is omnipotent (see: all powerful) so I never have to worry that something can come against me that is bigger than my Shield. He is omniscient (see: all knowing) so I never have to worry that an attack will take Him by surprise, because He sees it all before it’s even been pointed in my direction.
Today, tomorrow, always, He is your shield. Isn’t that a beautiful thing?
