Carry Each Other’s Burdens

 In service/ministry, The Word

Last night instead of having our regular Monday night Ladies Bible study, we drove to the Zoe’s Journey buildings in Lakeland and spent the evening with the amazing women and children there. Access had recently challenged each of it’s small groups to something called the “C-Note Challenge.” Each small group was given $100 and told to think of a creative way to bless someone else with it.

The night I told our group about the challenge, we talked for over 2 hours about what we could do with the money to help others. It was adorable watching how excited everyone got! Also of note was how many of the ideas we came up with didn’t require use of the $100 at all. Goes to show that even if you are limited in resources, you still have so much you can give just within yourself.

Being with those amazing ladies last night was incredibly inspiring. We ended the evening with prayer requests, and we left promising to remember them in our prayers daily. Then, this morning, while going through my daily Bible reading, I came across this verse and just smiled at how appropriately timed it was with our visit:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

– Galatians 6:2

In a world where we all feel the weight of our own burdens so strongly, it’d be easy to write off others with the excuse that we simply don’t have time for anyone else. After all, we’re barely able to keep up with our own issues, right? But that’s the beauty of Christ’s love – it puts others first. Last night, just for a moment, we were able to go and carry someone else’s burden.

There is amazing perspective and inspiration that comes from stepping outside of your own problems and observing someone else. I encourage you to give it a try. Not only is it “fulfilling the law of Christ,” but it will also bring incredible contentment and peace in the midst of your own circumstances. So, come on! Let’s carry each other’s burdens!
