October Means Appreciate Your Pastors

 In leadership

Alright, so let’s just start right off by addressing the proverbial elephant in the proverbial room: Am I allowed to write a blog encouraging the merits of Pastor Appreciation when I am one half of a pastoral couple myself? The answer, for me, is YES. Why? Because I’m not just seeking a pat on the back for my own pastoral husband. In fact, I’m not seeking anything for us at all.

But the truth is that Pastoral Appreciation has sadly become a lost art. In an age where celebrity is valued over wisdom, it’s more and more common to see people valued and honored for everything but the things that matter. And God’s Word is clear about the fact that we should, in fact, honor our pastors:

“Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.”

– 1 Timothy 5:7

I have been so incredibly fortunate with the people who have been in leadership over me duringthe course of my life. Pastors have played a huge part in shaping my walk with God, my life in ministry, and my general life direction. Being the daughter of a pastor and now the wife of a pastor, I have seen firsthand just how much is sacrificed and given by those who lead our congregations. Let’s take a moment to appreciate them this month. Think about how different your life would be had they not said “Yes” to God’s call on their lives.
