Searching for Forever
We are in the midst of a season of life that can only be described one way: transitional. Not only is my 30th birthday approaching (and with it, an adieu to my 20s), but we are also moving to a new city in a few weeks in order to launch a new campus of Access. Add to that the fact that my son Joey will be starting Kindergarten this August, and you can see why I’m feeling slightly panicked at the thought of my ground shifting so rapidly beneath me. It’s as if all my comfort zones (my youth, my home, my circle of influence) are changing, and I’m left looking around frantically for something stable that I can cling to for dear life while change hurtles and zips all around me.
I was thinking of this the other day when a familiar Scripture came to my mind:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
– Hebrews 13:8
Reading that is like taking a big, deep breath and finally releasing a burden off my shoulders that has been weighing me down for weeks now. There is stability! There is constant! There is Someone that is forever! Even though my ground may be shifting and moving more than the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, there is Someone who holds my world and never changes. In the midst of one of the most transitional phases of my life, I can trust that He is always there and is not going to change. Never. He is forever the same.
If you’re in a place of change today, take comfort! God is always the same, and in that steadfastness, He offers you a place of respite from life’s ups and downs. No matter where our paths may lead, He will never change. I don’t know about you, but for me, that is so completely comforting. I’ve finally found my forever.
