Be Alert!

 In the enemy

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

– 1 Peter 5:8

I have been reminded of this verse so much lately. Know that whenever you step out into your God-given purpose and destiny, you will meet with opposition. It simply means that you’re on the right path, and, as a result, have put the enemy on alert. Doesn’t mean it’s easy, though. Recently, I’ve seen just how the enemy tends to work from observations of my own family and the lives of some of my dearest friends. It’s tough, it’s draining, and most of all, it makes me mad.

I don’t like watching the people I love attacked because they are being brave and stepping out to do God’s will. I hate watching people suffer and seeing them have to combat not only their circumstances, but also the lies the enemy tries to add on top of them: “Give up now! It’ll be so much easier! Look what happens when you try to do God’s work!” It’s lies like these that can help you distinguish just when you are being attacked, because statements like that are 100% false. Always weigh the words you’re hearing and think to yourself, “Is this something God would say to me?” If not, chances are, you’re being lied to, so don’t listen!

Remember that no matter how hard the enemy tries, you don’t have to fear or give in. Why? Because God is on your side, and He’s greater than anything the enemy could ever throw at you. No matter what, God is greater. Read these reassuring words from the book of John:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

– John 16:33

If you are feeling a little (or a lot!) attacked today, take heart. You’re exactly where you should be, and the opposition is to be expected. More than that, God is on your side and He has already conquered any and everything you could possibly face. Surround yourself with friends who will pray for you and then stand firm. This, too, shall pass. Be alert to the enemy’s ways, call him out on his lies, and then stand on God’s truth (His Word). You will come through this stronger than ever and thriving in the center of God’s will.
